Community land trust could plant new roots in district

Block D, which is along the overpass that is being taken down this summer, is the block that New Roots Community Land Trust is interested in developing. As the Examiner reported in May, Treno Morton, a planner with New Roots, gave a presentation on how a housing development in that block could look. Black neighbourhoods were destroyed and displaced to build the interchange and New Roots is working with the city to rebuild a community for Black residents in the Cogswell District.

The New Roots proposal includes two high-rise buildings with affordable and market housing, a recreation and community space, and social spaces.
